Celebrating the New Year with Blessings on the Meal

2009 closed with a quiet evening initiated with a lovely fish chowder and finished up with a movie by the wood stove. We found ourselves recounting the blessings of 2009 and feeling like the coming of the morning would bring us a new year full of fresh opportunity.

I must give credit where it is due to my friend Soulemama for the link to Piknic for photo budget editing at its finest.

This week I made an enormous amount of jam and canned it for the months to come. When the berries are ripe, I never seem to have time to spend in the kitchen so I freeze them for a winter jam project. The jam project became imminent with the return of beef from the butcher. We needed the freezer space to store the meat. With the beef safely stored and the canned fruit looking beautiful, I finally put the canner up for the season and now we are digging ourselves out from under a mountain of paperwork. The winter provides needed time to catch up: bookkeep, create a budget, read articles of interest and learn about new techy stuff. We have been enjoying Lifehacker and Yakaz , as we consider getting rid of our land line to use Skype with an iTouch and search for used cultivating tractors.

Tomorrow, we start the seed order. If there is something you would love to see or taste in the garden this year, this is the time to let us know!

And, don't forget to sign up for a CSA share....there are a limited number of openings that we anticipate will fill quickly.

Blessing on the meal,
Stacy and John
